Establishing Parentage in an Abusive Relationship (Members & IDHS funded organizations only)

The Network invites you to join the "Establishing Parentage in an Abusive Relationship" training, exclusive for The Network's member organizations and IDHS funded agencies.

This training will be hosted virtually on zoom, Friday September 13th, 11-1pm CST.

Danielle Parisi Ruffatto, Managing Director of Family Law and Protective Orders at Ascend Justice will be leading this discussion.

This training will focus on legal issues related to establishing legal parentage related to children in common with abusive partners.

Topics will include:

  • How is legal parentage established?
  • What is a Voluntary Acknowledgements of Paternity (VAP) and what are the legal consequences of signing one?
  • How is this related to what names appear on the child’s birth certificate?
  • What happens if someone else signs a VAP?
  • What other options do survivors have if they want to establish legal parentage?
This virtual training is provided for members and IDHS funded organizations only. Please check here to confirm if your organization is a member of The Network.

In case you need ICDVP or Social Work CEUs, please indicate it clearly in your registration, and later in your evaluation. Please click here for our CEU issuance policy - this is an important document for you to review if you are requesting CEUs. This training will give 2 CEUs at no cost to member org staff.
