Understanding Decarceration and Domestic Violence Virtual Training
The Network and Women’s Justice Institute, Chicago bring you - “Understanding Decarceration and Gender based Violence”, a free virtual training for GBV advocates, activists and community organizers on September 24, 25 & 26 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
Understanding decarceration and domestic violence is essential as the global movement to eliminate mass incarceration continues. The "tough-on-crime" policies that resulted in an increase in the number of women in prison have resonated throughout entire communities, with children of incarcerated mothers now entering the system. The astounding number of criminalized survivors incarcerated across the country demonstrates the catastrophic repercussions of relying on oppressive, racist, classist, and sexist systems. In this training we will focus on enhancing knowledge and skills in decarceration as well as practicing some self-care as we support criminalized survivors.
Here is what you will learn:
Incarceration, analyzing the history of mass imprisonment, including the five pathways identified by the Women's Justice Institute, as well as the primary methods affecting mass incarceration targets, particularly women.
Decarceration, significance of knowing and adopting decarceration tactics in advocating for and liberating women and criminalized survivors.
Practicing what we learned as well as taking care of ourselves.
A zoom link will be sent out in a welcome email three days before the training. 7 CEUs will be given for Social Work and ICDVP; certificates will be issued within 3 weeks after the end of the training.
