Coerced Debt Relief
Join The Network: Advocating Against Domestic Violence and Legal Action Chicago for a virtual presentation discussing Illinois’ newly enacted coerced debt law, which can help survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. This presentation is geared towards individuals working directly with clients who may be eligible for coerced debt relief under the Act. Part of this presentation will cover the respective forms needed to submit to loan agencies in order to apply.
What is coerced debt?
Coerced debt is a common financial abuse tactic that burdens survivors with debt that they did not truly, willingly incur. This includes debt that was taken on because of fraud, duress, intimidation, threat, force, coercion, undue influence, or non-consensual use of personal identifying information by a person who caused harm.
